Once I have roots in the pots I dramatically increase how much water they are getting, especially if the top is open to air. I have had a few species that couldn't tolerate this, but most have handled it fine.

Washingtonia Filifera and Washingtonia robusta is between those who tolerate more water? Today I watered a little more but still not enough water to come through the drainage holes.

Hello everyone.

I am also trying germination but of Ravenala, Adansonia and Schizolobium seeds.

Ive soaked them in sugar water for a day or 2 then started scarifying the hard shell esp of the Adansonia and Schizo seeds with a nail cutter.

I tried the nail file but didnt seem to scratch the hard shell at all so i was carefull and cut the shell with the nail cutter.

I did not remove all the shell but left a hole in the shell where the endocarp was exposed and where the sugar water can enter.

I then left them to soak for 1 more day in sugar water before planting them in peat pots and potting soil.......

Would the experts here recommend the clipping of the hard shell?

.......no growth yet. Still on its 3rd day.

Thanks. Ritchy

Hi. Washingtonia Robusta and Filifera looks like after 33 days.

Some have noticed that it leaves twist as shown below. Why leaf twists?

And I have one more question: second leaf when it should appear?

Hello,

Well done with those seeds. They look nice and healthy.

Don't be afraid about twisting of leaves, it is very individual and you can't influence it.

The second leaf appears approximately after a month, but if will not, let that palm more time. Hope you palms will grow nice and healthy.

Good luck!

Regards Andrew

I'd like to take out, so far I've kept in a room where the temperature was 24C. I could leave them out at night? Temperature is 22-26C during the day and at night is around 11-12C ..

Well, not yet. Wait until the night temperatures will be around 15 °C, better safe than sorry.

Ok. Can I take out even during the day and keep them in a place away from sunlight and night to move back into the room?

Adansonia and Schizolobium seeds germinated after 1 week.

No leaf yet but stem poking though the soil.

I enclosed the peat germination pots inside plastic sandwich bags in room temp.

I will probably keep them enclosed untill I get a leaf and increase light exposure as I get more leaf development.

Thank you Adrian and Grasswing for the tips on your thread.

Cheers. Ritchy :greenthumb:
