Paul,

This is true british colonial hotel in a true portuguese colonial fort filled with true colonial dutch house, poor sinhalese !
But tourists can enjoy the "colonial nostalgia" if they wish!

Galle Fort can show portuguese architecture and typical dutch mansions and some other british buildings.

They succeeded to each other: 1505, 1658, 1796, chacun son tour: each in turn!

That flower arrangement is a beauty -- I'd like to have a room large enough for one of those. :) But I'd especially like to grow some heliconias like that. I'm trying... Are the umbrellas made of waxed paper?

I think so Kim, maybe chinese umbrellas,

In Ceylon, people use umbrellas also under the sun, not only under the monsoon!
