That sounds like my idea of the perfect holiday, the only small part of paradise you omitted is cold cervezas, but I am quite sure you have that too.

Sounds like I need to persuade my wife she needs a holiday ! .

Tad,

Great job with the photos. I can't believe how big some of the palms have got since Andrea and I was down 2 years ago. Dial really has alot more material growing now. Especially in the shadehouse. With Dial's nursery being so far out of the way from big towns, where is looking to market his palms? Thanks again, and Dial, if your reading this......a big HELLO!

plans for a retail nursery are sorta in the works on the highway, the highway is a major truck traffic corridor from the port at altamira to victoria.

Dial is also eating huge sections of the nursery stock up by planting out the remainder of the newly aquired area for the botanical garden.

I am glad your all enjoying the pictures.

Well, I've been to most of the places you pictured, though its been 2 years since I was at Dial's. It just makes me want to get back to Mexico again, especially since I am so much closer now.

Tad, Thank you for the incredible photo's! On a previous post, you included what a picture of the reddest Red Latan I have ever seen. Can you tell us how you caused this remarkable coloring?

What you look for is what is looking

Posted

Zac may not have the means but does have the knowledge. Just give him a little time. I'm sure he knows tons more than most of us.

Posted

bubba , I didnt have anything to do with that palms color, I would guess climate, and environment have evrything to do with it's color.

David, I never said he didnt have the knowledge, I just said he is in way over his head with claims like that.

the fact is Zac is very book smart, knows his plants backwards and forwards, and has even been to mexico a couple of times. but conducting business in Mexico requires a whole lot more than knowing about plants. I will leave it at that.

Tad, Do you have a permit in case folks want to bring back seeds? If so, I wonder if you have to wait an extra day or so to get them through the inspection station. If you don't offer this, this maybe something you might want to think about. On the other hand, it may just be a big hassle.

Posted

we have import permits and there is usually no waiting, the nursery on the american side is starting to carry smaller sizes of these palms, and some of the cycads. having a import permit is only half the battle david. collection permits(from the mexican government) are also required. another factor is on some of these braheas, seed is so rarely available, it is difficult to be in the right place at the right time. so we have begun to set up some small scale seed production at the camp. but this will take some time to complete.  I am not encouraging anyone to sign up for a tour with the notion that there will be vast amounts of seed free for the taking, thats not what this about. I also do not encourage people digging up and trying to pillage the environment, some of the areas we tour are privaetly owned ranches and this type of behaviour will not be allowed.

However if your interested in touring these locations and seeing these palms, cycads, and the mexican country side, staying in a first rate hotel, with american style electricty, pool and gardens... maybe take a day fishing, side trips into sabal forrests, or a early morning duck hunt, with a great chef serving meals prepared to order (no worries about eating or drinking here!!) then we would be proud to do all we can to help you with that. NO WORRIES, NO HASSLES, just sit back and enjoy the trip. all the paperwork has been taken care of, all the details worked out.

Great pics, looks like a great part of mexico.

With all those fairly rare palms in the nurseries you showed it makes me wonder how the seeds were imported into Mexico. I've tried to send small packets to my father in Nayarit, but they get confiscated. Is by foot/car the only way?

Great pics, thanks for the virtural tour!

kyle getting stuff down to the camp is always a bit of a pain in the nalgas, but most everything there is brought in one way or another. a little mordida here and there..as they say.... plata o plombo, que gustan mas?
