I can't understand how it would take 9 years to get to that size. This is hands down one of the faster growers I have. Of course mine are in the ground, perhaps that makes them faster.

Read up in MattyB's thread. You don't have this palm. You have the other ones going around.

Did I miss something in Matty's thread? I also have the old ambositrae as well, the one that starts chocolate colored and got renamed plumosa, it's actually much slower up here. The real ambositrae with the red emerging spear and the leaf with dark green leaflets that are wider and in a plane is really a good fast grower with cool Summer nights. Mine are in full coastal valley sun and keep on throwing one frond after another.

I just read Matty's thread again, how could I have been so foolish as to assume that I had figured the whole ambositrae thing out? There is yet a third one? Why don't we start using roman numerals with all the dypsis out there?

Here are photos of mine, what the heck do I have? Ambositrae II or Ambositrae III?

Welcome to the world of Dypsis. I have three distinct "Betefaka's". Crazy stuff.

Yours is the more common faster growing Ambo talked about here. You would never call the other a fast palm ;)

Thanks for the info, guys. This is real helpful. I learned something new today. I am really only interested in the palm I posted a picture of above. It grows phenomenally well for me, hands down the easiest dypsis besides baronii for me to grow and it looks really nice too. Maybe when my palm sickness progresses further, I'll probably end up trying to nurse an ambositrae 'kindreo' for many years.

I posted a question in Matty's thread on why the name ambositrae for kindreo since the ambositrae above is supposed to be the Dransfield ID'd ambositrae. would be curious to understand the background.

I'll stay tuned for dypsis ambositrae IV, coming soon to a nursery near you.

So I have seeds from RPS this spring starting to grow in Doranakanda garden.

If they are so slow, I'll plant them directly in the ground, they'll see Caryota falling from bird's..... and germinate anywhere and grow 2m in 2 years, and they'll discuss with rabbits or wild pig explaining them they have to mature very quickly otherwise...

we'll see!
