Earlier this week I posted these pics of our Loxococcus in a reply to one of Philippe's (dorabakandawatta's) topics:

Then yesterday I noticed a little surprise:

Thank you Philippe - These were obtained and planted out as 5 gal size in the Spring (April) of 2011:

Bill/Philippe - Yes they seem to like both the rocky soil and the full sun. I was concerned at first, but they have done very well.

Those look amazing! How much water would you guess that they get in full sun?

George,

That's really exciting! I'm glad to see they're doing so well for you! :)

Boy Dr. George, I've got a year on you and mine haven't grown nearly as fast. Must be the sunshine and heat. They look great and have nice spacing.

Mandrew - they are on drip irrigation - probably get maximum 20-30 inches of natural rain/year - have had as little as 12 inches in 1 of past 3 years, so the drip is a necessity on the west side of the Big Island.

Thanks, Bo - they appear to have found a home they like - had never heard of the genus/species until you introduced us.

Tim - They really are a very nice palm - I agree - the rocky soil and the sun seem to agree with them - they are staggered, I think at 10 ft centers.

Will be around the farm for another week plus, so if there is any progress to report, I'll post an update. - gmp
