At the time I knew only common names like royal palms, fan palms, windmill palms, champagne palms, cane palms... and had no idea of the growth of them, I have had this experience which gave me the palm addiction sickness, especially after I met M. Thabit Suby in his garden in Piliyandala.

Few years later, Doranakanda garden project started with my friend Kasun.

These are pics of a garden which doesn't exist anymore , but like any old man, I like to watch them sometimes, and , If you don't mind, II'll share these photos of the garden in Mirissa with you.

What a great garden. Thanks for sharing. And like all gardens, they are meant to evolve, even sometimes die. But for every one that dies, somewhere a new one springs to life. It is the nature of things.

And that was your first attempt! Superb. Great mix

Thank you for your kind comments,

You can notice that I didn't know how Dypsis lutescens can grow...

....and see that I was lucky with Heliconia indica either red leaves or variegated leaves, they grew like weeds and I could separate and propagate, which is something impossible in Doranakanda garden.

This is a particular thing I start to learn with palms:

There is no comparison between juvenile plants and mature palms, As a beginner I feel mature palms like Bentinckia nicobarica very disappointing; no chance to see the nice color of the crownshaft anymore!

But It give a chance to enjoy two different pictures of the same garden within 10 years!

Such a paradise! :) And it doesn't exist anymore? Then it is a reverie of a tropical garden. Thank you for posting your photos!

Yes Kim, it's game over...

Last year I posted already some pics on:

http://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?/topic/35106-my-first-garden-on-srilankan-south-coast/

but it was a good first experience If I put on side the sadness attached to it.

Maybe the property is still for sale...but most of the plants and palms disappeared.
