I woke to a low of 39.4F this AM with a 47F forecast.

If this is a positive, it is that everything in the yard is drenched with moisture (fortunately in the liquid form) and I am lucky that they are not all frosted!

It's 8:30 am now, and is warming up nicely. Already in the low 60's.  I'm praying for beautiful weather the following weekend for our Spring Open House Sale on March 2,3 and 4th. We really dodged a bullet this past weekend though!

I think this threat of cold in Florida is officially over....... Tampa doesn't show one night with lows less than 55f for the next 10 days...... Good sign that spring is coming very soon.

It seems we have written this winter obituary at least twice maybe 3 times for Florida this year! ??? Keeps coming back to LIFE, and healthier than ever.

That's not to bad ,only missed it by 8 degrees!

I think they should start predicting low temps like they predict RAIN!

POP- or percentage of a chance of precipitation!

That way they would always have an out if they completely missed it.

Well....I figure what they would say is.....

"We didnt miss the forecast by 8 degrees, your location is a cold pocket!  Look at the Fred Howard Park reading of 45.95F.  We almost nailed it!"

Never mind the fact that the reading from this station correlates to about 1% of Tarpon Springs that sits on the water  

But, I do like the idea of probabilities.  That would give us an idea of confidence.

It felt GOOD today!! I didn't have to run track in 50 degree weather. Well, actually today I had flag-football try-outs and it's nice not having the ball feel like ice when you catch it. But that cold KILLS when you're trying to run!

Hey Larry-

I read those area temps and I'm always a little curious....

If you are ever in the area of Clearwater and at or near the address of "1 South Jupiter" could you tell if thats a good microclimate there?  Thats where my grandparents lived years ago with a vacant  "1/2 lot" they owned next door. (after the house was sold, they crammed a house on the lot)  If I can remember enough of the area, (pre palm nuttness) I think its a pretty good area that would have had a big lot.

Just curious if you get a chance...

I know the approximate area where that address is.

I would say that it is a good palm climate there.  It is certainly better than where I am climate-wise, but short of the climate seen in the southern parts of St. Petersburg.  I would venture to say that when I logged 34F last Saturday AM, it was probably 36-38F in the area of your grandparents old house.

I had forgot, but that "finger" of St Petersburg into the Gulf probably goes a long way towards moderating the temps!!

My parents have a winter condo down there, but on the 4th or 5th floor...no help there!

That is an incredible spread in temperature & probably only occurs in winter, right  ::  Splendid demonstration of marine influence.  Frankly, I had no idea how extreme the difference can be over relatively short distances in Florida.

Glad that polar jet stream has shifted north & up to Canada.  Seasonally cold in the Northeast. Warm in Florida/Texas. Cool in California.

It's fine.  No freeze, no damage.  And the little adenium at the base of it continued to bloom straight through the winter!

As the crow flies, Fred Howard Park is probably 2 miles from me

But, I am 1.5 miles from the Gulf and Fred Howard Park sits right on it.

On one calm cold night in December 2005 Id drove from my house (Point A on the below map) out to the end of the peninsula (just west of Point B on the map) with a thermocouple out the window and there was a bona fide 10F differential!  (41F at my house and 51F out on that point).

Selfishly.....I hope not!

This extra 2.5% sales tax they are talking about, plus the Pinellas 1%, plus the base 6% already in place, plus whatever else they add onto this......

will in the end probably end up costing someone like me more than the way it is now (since we are locked in under Homestead and SOH Cap).

I say I am being selfish as my property taxes are 1/2 to 1/3 of what people who bought last year on my street are paying.

It's so true, Larry..... My brother is in the same situation..... He has a 2-bedroom condo overlooking the UN building in Manhattan that he pays $400/month for..... If he moved to another apt, he'd pay 10x that there.
