Mucuna bennettii

Recommended Posts

I bought a Macuna bennettii home with me after seeing them in their full glory up in the North of Thailand.

Im wondering if anyone has had any success with them in the sub tropics. I know they are meant to be a bit picky about anything cool.

Any tips to overcome the impossible?

I have planted it at the base of a wall, the fence it will climb on recieves sun all year.

I wish I had planted at the begining of the rainy season but I only got it end of August.

Its one of those things that if you see it in flower you've just got to try.

Stunning photo of a great vine! I plan to build a trellis specifically for some of these beauties when I move where it doesn't freeze. Am I correct that Fairchild Gardens has this one?

If so, photos of how they grow it from someone in Florida or looking at Fairchild's website might help.might help.

I just checked their website and only see the completely different genus of Jade vine with blue/green blooms.

A beaufitul vine but very cold sensitive. The used to have on at Fairchilds growing in an oak tree. From a distance you would have sworn it was a Delonix in bloom.

So many species,

so little time.

Last Freeze: 2011,50 Miles North of Fairchilds

It just depends on your climate. Here in south florida it's definitely a gamble. Meaning you could grow it for several years, but expect to loose it at any time. I would guess a prolong period of middle to upper 30'sF will do it in.
