Matty's thread where several people volunteered to help him plant some palms made me think of this video:

If you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own, by Noah and the Wales.

The sad part is that this used to be the norm and now it is the exception.

You know Kitty.....when that same thought crosses my mind (as it does all of ours periodically)------

I am reminded of the various studies that show, unequivocally, that the current state of affairs on this spinning sphere is such that we are actually in the least violent age that has been experienced. As time marches on, the trend is towards less and less violence, less and less conflict. It appears hard to see this sometimes, but I am going to believe its true.

the reason things seem worse is because of two main factors. The first is that news travels faster, and there are more people on the planet. So you hear about all the horrible things that happen. The second is that a lot of people do spend a considerable amount of time in cars, cars being a very special environent that happens to not bring out the best in people. Road rage is common. But when you look at these things in historical contexts, we're doing pretty darn good. Knock on wood, the US is the few countries in the world where there hasn't been warfare on domestic soil for over a century.

I had already seen the second video which is

very good.

I had never seen the one that started this thread and enjoyed it very much. Thanks to you both for spreading the positive!

Every time I get nostalgic for the glorious past, I try to think about my parents' time, and WW II and the Holocaust, and all the other suffering along with it. Or how about the tranquility of the Civil War, and the events immediately before and after?
