I picked up "Hugh Caldwell" today, and am hoping I will have success growing it.

Yes but it is super easy for us... You could throw them on the ground and they'll grow!

Will,

I was looking into these for the longest time. I have read that you should treat them like an orchid. They like a very loose mix. Some have even grown them in the small pine bark mix that orchid growers use.

Joe, yea, the one I bought was in a 6" pot of pure orchid bark. I am going to treat it like an orchid, and move it outside in the warm season.

Thanks Will,

The only advice I can think of is that they'll need some light (not direct sun) indoors, they don't like super deep shade. But outside make sure it's in shade.

I have a nice morning sunny spot by a window.

I thought all you had to do to grow anything in Hawaii was just toss it onto the ground and walk away...

Be sure it's not direct sun! I'm not an expert but when ours get direct sun on a warm day, the new growth wilts! Then I have to dump large amounts of water on it.

I fill my yard waste bin to overflowing every week, but that just looks like a mess.

I've had this one growing well in Southern California for the past 12 years. It's outdoors year round planted in a 12" pot full of medium orchid bark. The plant looks large for the pot size but seems happy with regular water and feeding.
