My daughter Kristina is down here on holidays from college and we decided to have lunch at the botanical gardens in Hobart .

With me being me i had to take a few pics in the palm section .

Hedyscepe that i grew from seed in the gardens Nursery waiting to be planted out . I also have another 15 species i have donated that wil be planted oiut in the future !

Nice photos Troy..thanks for posting! Amazing what grows that far south! How does the species 'growability' list compare with NZ? Those palms are quite old so are definitely long term survivors.

Yes..other beat me to the following thoughts.....you look too young to have a 20 year old daughter and how does the climate there compare to NZ? Got to be an interesting place to live.

Hard to compare to NZ as climate varies a lot here. I would think almost anywhere can grow Phoenix, Chamaerops etc. In the North you can grow Royals in the best sites...

Warmest month (August/September) average minimum temperature : 21°C (70°F) / Warmest month (August/September) average maximum temperature : 28°C (82°F)
Coldest month (February/March) average minimum temperature : 14,5°C (58°F) / Coldest month (February/March) average maximum temperature : 21°C (70°F)

Temperature of the sea : minimum of 20°C (68°F) in march, maximum of 25°C (77°F) in September/October.
