I feel that Crinums are matching well with palms, so we have some species in Doranakanda garden:

We have Crinum xanthophyllum and one bigger variegated Crinum in Doranakanda garden.

This variegated Crinum seems to loose his variegation and becomes green, either due to the season or to full sun, I don't know!

Crinum xanthophyllum was flowering.

We found this dark red Crinum last august, but I ignore his name, I hope I'll propagate it and plant bigger beds.

Here as ground cover around our Loxococcus rupicola

Philippe, great pictures! Crinums are definitely great accents in a palm garden. Curious if you have grown C. jagus there. really nice species.

I found this at a Big Box store. The garden manager was complaining that the nursery had sent her the wrong plant. Shed ordered the red one. I immediately bought the only one that had come in because I had never seen one before.

I planted it along our driveway.

Like all crinum it puts out tons of seeds and the keiki grow at the base of the mother. Within a few months we were able to plant one of the keikis on the other side of the driveway. Recently they have both started to put out pure white plants. Ive dug up a few of them but none have survived. I suspect this is because the seeds drop so closely together it is impossible to get a reasonable amount of root. I think the only way we will get the white ones to grow is to pot every seed we collect and hope that we some of them are pure white.

Does anyone else have a variegated crinum with pure white keikis? Have you had any success growing the white ones?

Wow! That white is incredible! We have the green ones that are native to Florida,

Philippe I like the blue wall! That one Crinum is cool with the very erect leaves :)

Lee I'm praying that the pups of my variagated Crinum come out white like yours! Don't give up on the keiki's you divided, they don't necessarily need root to be successful, they're tough plants Nd will likely grow new roots and come back for you, also maybe let them get a bit larger before dividing

Phillipe I'm glad you started this thread! I would have never known Crinums such as this existed! Crinum stuhlmannii.

Wow - Thanks for all the wonderful Crinum pictures. I had not seen those species before. I partiularlly like the variegated yellow one.

They truly proliferate like weeds here in Hawaii. We started with one rubby colored one and quickly ended up with 2 dozen in the same small area, Digging them up didn't work: they just kept coming back.and spreading into a larger and larger area. Mike finally took a chainsaw to them and poisoned them with something really nasty. Within a couple of months they were back and taking over again. We really like them but would like to be able to plant some other things (possibly palms?) in our garden.

Alas, Even the ones with some roots died. And I mean dead in the sense that they shriveled into something that looked like mashed potatoes with a sprinkle of chives.

No matter. I'm not giving up and will get those all white crinum no matter what it takes.

All white Crinums (plants) won't work. They'd have to be parasites, saprophytes, or dead. No photosynthesis for Crinums, no life.

Ahhh! interesting point! Makes perfect sense

Lol

An interesting thing I just learned is that Crinums are related to and can be crossed with Amaryllis

Posted

Those are called Amarcrinums.

Also, there's Crinodonna.

Here's a cool one I found today growing on the side of the road, I didn't have a camera so I grabbed a flower, unfortunately no seeds were on or near the plant :( the leaves were green and the flowers looked like this :)

Great link Palmdude, lots of interesting species to try, if you can locate sources for bulbs/offsets. Aztec lilies (Spreckelia formosissima), and OxBlood Lilies (Rhodophiala bifida) are two other awesome members of this family for the garden.
