WHAT does it take for BS Man to weed his yard? (Palm trauma)

Yeah Bill! Man does that look great. You must feel a real sense of accomplishment along with some pains in the extremities right now! Really looks great. I too am looking forward to the "movie". Need to find a catchy title....how about "The Weeding Crashers" to play off of MattyB's recent post?

Bill,

That is indeed very impressive! And needless to say - once you're at this point, so much easier to keep the weeds in check and and a close eye on your palms. What an accomplishment! :)

Looks great Bill, I'm sure you feel much better now as well? If your going to grow great rare palms you might as well be able to see them hey!!

I also think you should go with the cardboard and mulch option now! Those weeds will do doubt spring back very quickly and now you gave done all the hard work you might as well do a tiny bit more!! I look forward to the post mulch pics!!

I am going to try hard to keep up, But I directed the guys to not weed in the pots or cages, So I have to go and remove some dead ones yet.. also weed them. I will then break down the runways, spray round up.. THEN hope to do the card board thing..

I am slowly getting the front yard "beautified.. and yet its a tiny race against the remaining weeds returning. In a few sparse area's they are 1" tall. BUT I am trying to more or less have NO plants in pots in the front yard.... Its either planted or to be moved. There may be one or two exceptions, but thats my goal. Anyone that has seen the yard in the last year or so would likely have a heart attack.. :D

But heres a nice incentive for me to keep it up ..

Bill, get some glyphosate concentrate and a garden sprayer and start spraying those weeds. You won't hurt the palms. You'll be sorry if you don't

Are you saying that palms are somewhat immune or resistant to glyphosate? I know Sabal minor are for sure. Just didn't know about other palms.

Glyphosate will kill or hurt the palms. You spray the weeds not the palms.

Weeds will reestablish rapidly if a layer of mulch is not put down immediately after their removal. Most (not all) weed seeds seem to prefer "touching" the soil to germinate.

why not just heavily mulch the yard? I used to have a crap load of weeds growing out of the ground regardless if it got water or was bone dry for months. last winter we got 2 days of rain and the entire backyard was swamped with weeds everywhere. I have since put down a couple inches of mulch and it's been weedless

Sorry, Moose not in the ground yet. But I am proud to say that more or less over half the front yard has stayed weeded and mulched... The mulched was undisturbed until a month or so ago... :(  Now the raccoon or skunks are back to dig mercilessly thru the mulch..

By the way, welcome back Moose... missed ya!
