Trying to embed a YouTube video to a post.

I've tried the direct link, and the embed code provided by YouTube. I have tried the "Link", "Code", and "Special BBC Code (Media)" all to no avail.

What am I, or the website, doing wrong?

It is hard for me to assist with this because there are so many variables. I have no clue as to what type of computer you are using, what OS, and what version. Or what browser, or how you are trying to post it, or what happens when you do.

Just be aware that it is possible, in several different ways.

Here I have just copied and pasted the direct link (url) It's not uTube, but I assume it should work the same.

In my past experience, some videos will and some won't. If they won't, I just post the link and move on. Life is too short to waste more time on it.

I was at work on a Windows 7 machine with IE 10.

But Keith is probably right considering how much hair I pulled...

I've found that if the videos won't embed, if you remove the hyperlink it works sometimes

Still maddening...

especially since I've seen posts where I was able to do it, but now can't.

{apparently the trigger for figuring it out is to post that I can't figure it out. Then it will work perfectly!}

Seems to work fine. Don't embed - just copy the URL and paste it naked here.

It will look like this

Note: If you are trying to share/embed someone else's video, and cannot, they have probably disallowed its use through one of their settings. Not everyone wishes their videos to be embedded elsewhere without their permission.

Post what you are trying to use as code (use the code tool icon above in the editor) so I can see what you are using.

Does your link work as a URL when pasted into your address bar?

youtu.be links don't create embedded videos here. Just go to the main youtube.com website and copy/paste the entire URL from the browser address bar. It will create an embedded video here automatically.

The trick is to paste the youtube link here just like you would paste simple text, then put your cursor at the end of the URL text and press Enter. It will automatically create the embedded video.

Trying to paste it as hyperlink, or using the "Insert other media" functions, or image, etc. will not work.

As Pando said - that is the trick.

To understand why - in the editor, the video URL has to be on its own dedicated line with no spaces after the URL. So hitting Enter immediately after you paste the URL will "drop" the cursor to the next line and leave the video URL on its own dedicated line with no spaces after the link. Then you can hit Save.

Something to do with Java Script and what they won't admit is a bug in the version we are presently using.
