Michael and I are going (we've never been there). We're very very looking forward to tour Leu Gardens and meet Eric!

For anyone that has not had the chance to visit Leu Gardens with Eric as a guide are missing. Eric is very informative on what can grow and what does not. He has tried many exotics in Central FL and has the experience. It is amazing what is growing at Leu Gardens. This is a tour not to be missed.

Also, the Wednesday prior to the CFPACS meeting, I am teaching a class, "Palms for Central Florida". It is on Wed. June 25, 2014 from 7-9PM. It will be a Powerpoint presentation and attendees get a 38 page chart/handout detailing many of the palms that can be grown in Central Florida.

Then Thurs. July 19 from 7-9PM I will be giving a presentation, "Cyads and other Prehistoric Plants for Central Florida".

Reminder: The Central Florida Palm and Cycad Society summer tour is June 28th, this coming Saturday, and should be of enormous interest to those trying to grow palms in challenging climates. This 50 acre spread is a tropical wonderland in Orlando, featuring many plants that you wouldn't expect to survive so far north. Included: Over 300 species of palms -- many of them rare-- grouped by climatic preferences. There are also extensive cycad and bamboo collections.

Palm Talker Eric Schmidt will lead the tour beginning at 10 a.m., break for lunch at 12:30, them resume at 1:30. A plant auction will follow the tour. Bring your checkbook: CFPACS auctions are famous state-wide for the terrific selection of available palms/cycads at bargain prices.

Admission is free to society members and to members of affiliated American Horticultural Society members. Non members are welcome, as well, at the specially negotiated admission price of $8.

For anyone coming to the CFPACS meeting at Leu Gardens and bring plants for the auction, heres where to drop the plants off;

When you first drive into Leu Gardens and pass through the main gate make an immediate left through a 2nd roll gate. The main road will curve to the right to the main building. So make that immediate left and follow that road. Along this road BEFORE you get to an overflow parking lot on the left will be some stakes with orange tape under a grove of camphor trees. Please drop the plants off here then drive on into the parking lot and turn around and head back to the main road and to the Entrance Building and the main parking lot. After the meeting is over you can drive back to this area to pick up your plants.

Also wanted to mention that during the lunch break, Michael and I went to the Xeriscape garden. WOW HOLEY COW so beautiful! But I think we were too overheated and deep in overwhelm that we forgot to take pictures. We're gonna haft go back to Leu Gardens. lol.

Two more things before I forget to mention them: Eric is so super duper awesome that that should be his new name….Super Duper Awesome Man! And the other thing---we scored a LISA!!! Woooohoooo!

Eric is extremely informative. I very much enjoyed the tour. Goy a really nice Livistona australis & Sabal minor. It was HOT, though. When I got up on the interstate my thermometer read 98 & there was a 3 or 4 mile stretch where it got to 101.

Leu Gardens is absolutely gorgeous and should be on the "must" list for anyone within driving/flying distance. Eric knows what he's doing in the palm world and his handiwork provides an amazing demonstration of what can be grown so far north.
