The Pigafetta has finally bounced back after being "smashed" by hail last December and is happily growing with Carcharodon Tigers which 1 is having triplets :)

I notice that the spines are no where near as "Black" as the Pigs Lee, Mike and Tim have posted.

Great time of the arvo to take some shots as the sun appeared after a wet drizzly day.

Pete :)

Pete,

Are they P. filaris or P. elata?

I think I have two seedlings from RPS seeds but I don't know which one. (I have been unsuccessful with not only B. condapanna…)

I notice your comment about sunlight… look forward and I'll be careful! :)

Wow Pete!!! :yay::drool::yay::drool::yay:

Gorgeous plant!

Len, broms and palms do well together eh, as do many other plants to compliment each other, I know you love more than "just palms " as well, your garden really shows that.

My 1st love is my wife and children of course, palms n plants are secondary as it would be for you too :)

Philippe, its elata, I look fwd to it looking like Lee, Mike n Tims.

Ante, whats gorgeous, the pig or the brom? :)

Pete, Your P. elata looks great!

I grew mine from rps seed spouted early 2013 and stuck in the ground 4/12. It was tiny enough to need a chopstick for support!

These photos are from August 2013. I anticipate getting new photos this August that show its continued rapid growth in full sun .

Those are some amazing looking palms. I was just watching a show about New Guinea and saw some in the back ground I believe. What would the biggest problem be in keeping one in Florida?

They're super cold sensitive and wind intolerant.

I am thinking about trying one and see how long I could keep it going. If people can grow things in the midwest from the tropics then I should be able to at least til it gets some size be able to protect it from the cold. The wind should be easier to deal with when small I would think. I don't get a lot of wind where I am at unless we are getting a storm. Has anyone tried one in Florida?

I didn't kill that plant. It committed suicide.

There are a few in South Florida as far as I know. I think that David Fairchild grew them for a while but lost them in a big wind storm.

We get as low as 3 c in winter and it went in the size of a pencil, I put a small plastic dome over it ( 3ftx 3ft) for the 1 st 2 winters it faced. Its "crucial" that outside of the Tropics , Pigafetta Has to be grown in Full Sun with "continual moisture".
