Just thought I'd share a simple technique I'm using to germinate a few Chamaerops humilis seeds. I'm sure people are using a similar technique but for some just starting out I've found this very easy. I've simply filled a fast food ice cream/frozen drink container with chopped Sphagnum moss and perlite and placed the seeds to be germinated just under the moss near the top. These containers usually live on top of the fridge as it's our winter and there is some heat generated from the back of the fridge. During the day I might move them onto a bright window ledge. If I notice the top of the moss drying out I'd give it a quick mist with water. Advantages I can see with this system are good re-use of a disposable item, transparent sides enable light in and you can observe when the seeds germinate. Easy to move around when required without disturbing the seedlings. Small hole in the lid maintains high humidity but allow heat out if temps rise to high. Sphagnum moss prevents mould from forming. Anyway hope this might be useful to some and enjoy the visuals.
