So far I have seen in this forum pictures of split leaves from various palms like Dypsis and Jubaeopsis. Here is a picture of another one from my Allagoptera. Do we know what causes such a split; is it a preliminary sign of future forking of the whole plant? As much as I can recall such split is known only on pinnate fronds, but there are also fan palms which eventually divide from a single to double or more plants such as Trithrinax campestris or Nannorrhops ritchiana, but I have not seen yet any split palmate leaf. Does anyone know more details on this issue?

Its probably splitting its growing point and forking, which is normal for this species. Random things happen as well, though most if not all cases i have seen where just prior to obvious splitting of the growing point.
