Way to go Ron! I agree with your philosophy. If I have to maintain the area, I will plant what I want, where I want. Oh course it helps that I have a few granddaddy oaks in the R/W also. I am going for the tunnel look after the Arenga australasica leaves get a little larger. Right now I have to trim them back so people can get down the sidewalk. As far as security concerns where people cannot see your house from the street, I like that, that is why they make network cameras.

The 7.2KV power lines out front prune the higher canopy palm leaves. I have had people stop at my front door and say that your palm is on fire out front. I look at them and say thanks, and shut the door.

Love the look Mike ! :wub2: Great minds think alike. Got to admit yours looks more lush - the chain link fence is a distraction.

I just wanted to convey that black or bronze will tend to make the fence "disappear" and the natural hues behind it will pop out at you. Green, no matter what shade, would make the fence more prominent. Chain link takes a whole different look when black or bronze. Trust me.

Jim that's an awesome piece of advice. That's exactly why a black wrought-iron fence looks so great in front of lots of vegetation.

I painted the chain link on my chicken pen with a flat olive green camouflage spray paint. Did wonders without that plastic look Jim refers too.
