carpoxylon macrospermum - new leaf gets damaged before it opens

Recommended Posts

My Carpoxylon Macrospermum has produced approxmiately 3 new leaves over the last year or so where each has grown so tall (before opening) that the leaf finally bends over (in half) before it opens from light to medium winds. This palm is fed 8-2-12 palm fertilizer and some 0-0-16 palm fertilizer since it is near a palm which was being treated for potassium and magnesium deficiency. Any idea why the new leaf would bend and get damaged like this before it opens and what can be done to help better prevent this in the future without having to provide some sort of physical support to the new leaf?

Thank you!
