Sometimes when you're so caught up maintaining your garden, you look but REALLY don't see, how some of your palms have developed. It's in a

fairly prominent place and I see it out of the corner of my eye all the time and was most interested in the inflorescence.

This morning I stopped for a moment to really look at this New Cal. Basselinia. Wow! I knew it was beautiful, but I think the current drought has made the

coloration even more intense. It's finally setting seed after flowering for about a year now.

Boy, what I wouldn't give for a few more in this genus.

I love these. I've ordered seeds a few times but have never had any luck with getting them to germinate.

Lovely plants Tim. I only have a couple left now...they really hate dry spells...but that is not a problem for you... :)

Gold Coast, Queensland Latitude 28S. Mild, Humid Subtropical climate. Rainfall - not consistent enough!

Thanks Josh & edric, they are nice little buggers.

Daryl, six weeks and no rain, I watered them for the first time today since moving to Hilo.

Such a gorgeous Palm Tim!

I killed my seedling of this species. So far so good with five other Basselinas: eriostachys, favieri, glabrata and two pancheri.

It poured after I returned from car buying yesterday so only could reach the two species that are close to the house.

This is Basselina pancheri planted April 2014.

I'll try to photograph my other little ones planted 8/11 and 8/13 before I leave on Monday (dreading it already)

I'd love to see any other Basselinas too!

This is Basselina humboltiana planted also April 2014.post-4111-0-43089700-1422096812_thumb.jp

Good luck with them Cindy, should be an impressive collection once they get some size to them. Your as bad as Lee Tracy, in having at least one of everything. Noah's Ark gardens.

I need to un up the road to see if any are available.

The other nice thing about these palms, is that they don't take up a lot of space, and you can enjoy them at eye level for along time.

Super cool its getting seed its a tough grow here with our hot santa anna winds.

Adam, I agree. The dry santa ana winds will severely brown tip the leaves in no time
