Acrocomia aculeata and shade?

Pots are baking in the scorching summer sun with 35C+ and a hot drying wind, and Acrocomia are showing good progress fast after months of just staying the same...

:)

They seem to prefer to be on the hot and dryer side, as inner pot soil stays moist for very long. Leaflets are opening fast now, finally, instead of just being in a semi-opened spear phase as they were. The other one is about to follow in recovery/growth, just want to be left to dry some more

Heat, good drainage, and regular moistuer.

Put them in the ground when they're vigorous, and you'll end up with an Armageddon Palm.

Thanks Dave! :)

It's culture was exactly as you said, regardless of the bare rooting need to reestablish.

I have one in the ground from last July and definitely need to find spots for those soon! The left one is digging down the pot and pulling the whole rootball up already! They look so plumose and awesome when big and the rows of spines around the trunk make for a unique look. Now to get them there...

  • 1 month later...

They are doing well and pushing at a good pace the last month

Still far from full canopy though... Just to get an idea how different it is growing palms here with no suppliers for a number of species, and thus starting them from seed or importing and having a heartache, fussing over them and watching a slow recovery(or death...)

A couple more new leafs maybe and it should start growing normal leafs.
