In the overall view, you can see a Dictyosperma aureum with leaves in a sorry state – as are those of the Dypsis Sainte-Lucie, to see after – It is due to exotic birds which are called weavers (tisserands here). They build their nest with the petiole fringe of palms, or sugar cane leaves ; which is not without harm. Fortunetly the weaver bird population is not of a huge number and they are not regarded as animal pest in Réunion island. Nonetheless, when they settle somewhere is to last. Better worth not in your garden, so !

Gorgeous gardens and lucky you to have the weaver birds, I love tho noise they make. I hope the damage they do is minimal

I'm in love with your variegated palm. Such a treasure. All of your plants are! I think the bird nests are cool, probably won't do too much harm.

Judging by your photos the damage done by those weaver birds would be minimal and that variegated christmas palm is very nice.
