Parajubaea torallyi aren't generally thought of as riparian palms. This one, beside my koi pond, begs to differ. When planted as a tiny strap leafed plant, the body of water nearby was a swimming pool. Years later I converted it to a Koi pond and the palm in question began sending roots into the pond by way of the underside of a stone waterfall spillway. It will be interesting to see just how far the roots travel downward along the wall of the pond.

Will, not difficult. I started by adding 8 to12 inches of pebbles to the bottom of the pool, desperate the shallow end creating a beach entry of sorts. A commercial pond filter was located on a step in the deep end that the bridge hides with a hatch opening at the end of that bridge. I dechlorinated the water chemically and added two large koi that I had raised in a much smaller pond. With good circulation, nature to its course and everything fell into place. It's actually much easier to maintain than a swimming pool and much less expensive as well. The fish enjoy the water much more than anyone else did.:)

Was that spillway cave area pictured above, a whirlpool tub area originally?

Cool to know Parajubea like to tap into water like that.....seems alot of drought tolerant palms prefer water if given access.

David, No, it's just a simple smallish waterfall built over what was a stone seating wall. I have a 12 foot high cascading waterfall on the other side of the pond that runs only when I want it to.
