Even though I visited Hawaii a full month before Paul, he already posted his photos a week or two ago! In any case, here are the ones I took while there.

Tim and Bob were amazing hosts during my stay, and Mike and Mary Lock also spent a lot of time driving me around to various locations. Jeff (Floribunda), Bill Austin, and Jerry Andersen were all kind enough to provide garden tours. I have what I think are correct IDs for most of the palms, but there are a couple of mysteries...

Let's start with Tim and Bob's fantastic garden.

Geeze Jack, you're as bad about posting as I am. Hey, I don't have a Geonoma epipiolata UNFORTUNATELY,(not sure of the spelling on this), although the photo in post #3 looks like a Calyptrocalyx leptotstachys.

It was great having you here and I'm glad we could keep you busy.

The lava level in the Halema'uma'u crater was the highest it's been since 2007, and you could actually see the lava pool from the Jagger overlook. Mike and Mary had a nice spotting scope that produced a stunning view of the bubbling lava. I grabbed a few photos, but the dynamic range between the dark rocks at night and the lava was pretty extreme!

Jack, concerning the Geonoma in post #4 and 5, might this Not be G. epetiolata ? I don't see any of the very characteristic mottling of maroon against a lighter background, but I don't know this genus well enough to suggest an alternate species name. :)

Thanks Jack, as someone said above, we never tire of looking at Hawaiian palm gardens, it doesn't matter if the same palm is photographed in different threads, it's the mecca of so many species. I am curious though why we don't see many Cyrtostachys pics or coconut varieties, maybe I'll have to go next time, I'd like to think I'm a chance in 2016.

Thanks again Jack..

Happy Gardening
