Debbie, that's a Phoenix reclinata that has been kept to one trunk. If that's on Bascom Ave. San Jose, I remember it showing sprouts at its base occasionally. The gardeners must trim them off. It's very old!

Yes, it is on Bascom near Pruneyard. Actually there are several of them around that property. All single trunks and similar height. We were driving by and got stopped in traffic so was able to get a photo of this one. Was taken by the fronds and the skinny trunk. I was looking for spines but my long-distance vision isn't what it use to be. I've seen photos of P reclinata grouped but don't recall any this tall. Beautiful specimens.
