The first flower started today and it looks cool. Very easy to grow and looks exotic.

Tigridias rock.

They look like fake flowers made by someone with a fertile imagination.

Touch them. So real.

Will Tigridias grow in more tropical regions or are they best suited to a more temperate climate?

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Sorry I can’t answer your question with experience, but what I do know is that Tigridas grow from subtropical Mexico all the way down to Chile warm temperate climate. With 35 different species theres one for almost any climate. As a rule the more colourful ones are the most tropical heat tolerant. The ones I am growing are hardy to z9 to z11. Yellow and White flowering Tigridas are the most hardiest. Ones I am growing are the easiest to grow. Hope that helps. They also multiply pretty fast too.
