Syagrus romanzolffiana - overtrimmed with one leaf remaining, trunk covered with saw grooves and spike holes

Washingtonia robusta - never trimmed, 40 ft specimen with skirt all the way to the ground

Phoenix roebelenii - one dead trunk in the clump makes it more interesting

Trachyacarpus fortunei - foot-long old petioles still sticking out from all the hair

Archontophoenix cunninghamiana….(underwatered)

Hi everyone i'm new here and wanted to say hello to all of you!!! My wife and I are huge palm lovers and have been slowly growing our garden for the last five years. We live on the coast in northern San Diego. We have our favorites but my question to all of you is what are your favorites and what are in your opinion the must-have's?

Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you!!

You are, of course, welcome to come visit my garden next time you're in La Habra, which is your gateway to Whittier! Or Fullerton . ..

I know the small lot problem. My strategy was jam them all in and remove the ones that do poorly. Not as many as I thought did bad so now it's a bit cramped but I like that look. If you ever want to see what you can cram into 6700sf let me know.

One of these days I will have to take you up on that invite.  I will reciprocate that offer but have to warn you that my current garden in it's oldest parts is only a little over 5 years old, with other portions still not planted.

Don't worry about that. It's surprising how good a garden can be after 5 years. And, I've still got my Empty Quarter after 13 years. Not empty for long, though.
