i have several t latisectus with wide segments (latisectus) that form a 3/4 circle. i just got 2 more that the seller assures me are latisectus, but seem to have narrow(er) segments that form a 1/3 circle. is the palm in the 2nd photo a different species (if so, any idea which), or is this simply variation within the species?

I have to guess that it's variation. I had 2 from the same seed batch. I gave one to my father in law and kept the other. His looks just like your first pic and mine looks just like your second pic. It's now the second time I gave him the better of the pair. I really need to grow them up more before I give them away.
