Fall in Florida

Recommended Posts

What a beautiful day today in SW Florida. Temperature in the low 80's and dew point in the low 60's and a nice breeze, can't ask for anything better!  Let's hope the entire winter season is like today ;)

Feels nice to step outside and not start to sweat immediately!

The weather here has been gorgeous, with slightly less humidity, until the past couple days during which the humidity has been down drastically.  We have had some cool mornings mixed in with some very warm days and milder, breezy days like yesterday and today.  Measurable rain has been absent entirely here since the rainy season ended September 29th.  The garden doesn't know the difference though, as I have been watering the entire property heavily ever since.  Just distributed two 40 lb bags of fertilizer around all the palms to keep them robust as things gradually cool off.  It sometimes catches you off guard how pleasant and comfortable it feels outside, when you had become accustomed to blistering heat and high humidity for so long.  Ahhhh fall:)

Certainly strange fall weather here, feels like summer!  Highs in the low 90's, lows in the 70's, dew point in the mid 70's. I don't want any cold weather but I am sure we would appreciate some cooler less humid weather.

Weird weather, isn't it? It's a little uncomfortable but at least the palms will get in some more growth before the winter comes.

Keith, spot on. Uncomfortable for the humanoids, plants are digging these much higher then normal temperatures.

We've been averaging 10 F above normal. Been flirting with breaking record highs. Sure would be nice if I could take an early mourning saunter around the garden with the temps in the  60's F range.

The pleasant fall air has arrived.  One almost forgets how nice the cooler, drier air feels when it is hot and humid for 7 months straight.  Despite the forecast for 85F today and 88F tomorrow, I suspect the highs will be a bit cooler than that.  The 60s at night are going to feel great.

Actually was 69 F here before sunrise. Alas, it did not last long.

Was 69 this morning also in the Cape, last night the dew point went down to the upper 60's but today the dew points were back to the mid 70's.

Finally some relief. A wonderful rain preceded the front, just what the garden needed!

My absolute low temp for November so far is higher than the historical average low temp for November for my location. Hopefully this isn't nature teasing my palms before blasting them with another 2010 type freeze!

My thoughts exactly Keith.  59F at the Exec Airport and 56F at OIA so far for the lowest temps this fall season (this was one night in the 50s only).  Our average for November is 78F/59F, and our average so far this November is 86F/69F.  I hope the bottom doesn't suddenly drop out within the next month.  Cooler weather is once again in the forecast over the next week, but nothing below lower 50s at the lowest (so far).  Those highs in the 70s are going to be awfully nice!

Keith - you have become a veteran so fast. Nature can be so rewarding and then cruel all in the same season. Especially in Florida. Our weather can be so perfect, zone pushing ensues, then BAM.... Nature corrects our wrong thinking.

Zone pushing in Coral Gables being hardcore ultra tropical stuff like C. renda, Lodoicea, breadfruit.  Not a whole lot of palms in your immediate area are out of the question strictly due to cold weather.  I am jealous :greenthumb:

It is finally down below 70F here and it looks to stay that way for a few days.  Finally some persistent beneficial rains as well.

During my recent trip to South Florida Miami dipped to 70F at the latest fall date on record. I think it was November 21 or 22. Previous record was November 5.

Jason,

I've been following the weather/climate this fall of areas around FL and I had noticed how incredibly warm Miami (not to mention Key West) had stayed so late.  This is in great contrast to a few areas of North FL that have mid-summer lows averaging around 69F.

Orlando has been extremely mild this fall, as we haven't officially been below 49F yet, with only 4 nights in the 50s (I believe).  Today is finally feeling like a fall day here, with cool temperatures and overcast skies.

Geez!!! 3.6" would be half a year's worth for me!   I hope South Florida has a very comfortable winter and no fridgid blasts. But please send some precipitation westward!  I am hoping for this "Godzilla" El Niño to come to fruition in the form of LOTS of precipitation. We've had a better amount than normal but at this rate it will not approach anything that could be construed as Godzilla.

May your palms rejoice in the warmth and rains you're receiving!

Wow the rain, while not heavy, continues to fall. It may dampen the party Jeff but all the hard cores will show up. Pam has just put the first batch of your X-mas gift in the oven. She thinks its funny how little of it hits the desert table. LOL
