I remember seeing something on PT a few years back on this palm, I believe when it first became available.

I've had a couple of them for about a year now and finally to a size for planting out. They were already starting to

sucker while still small and I wonder what they look like as an older specimen.

Any status updates? Another genus I really like.

Tim,

Stand back, this palm should grow very fast and perform well for you out in Hawaii. Mine is now about 10' at least with many trunks and has flowered for several years. But no seeds. It is now known in the trade as D. patipi. And some day I expect it to be removed from Drymophloeus.

Thanks Jeff, it kinda has a ptychosperma look to it. We'll see what it looks like in a year or so.

I think so too. The leaves don’t have the characteristics of the other Drymophloeus spp., but all of a Ptychosperma

I love this one also!

The leaflets always looks shiny and beautiful and the stilt roots are obvious even though the whole palm is probably three feet tall. That's a PVC pipe visible nearby with my usual orange flagging tape and aluminum label.

Of course it has been in the ground since a seedling with no fertilizer or water from me. Pretty much in full shade and on a main path so I visit it at least every other day.

Another thing I enjoy about Palms is having to grab the globe to see where they came from! Geography lesson plus plants!

Wow, thanks for the photos Cindy. The name alone is almost the reason to have it in the garden.

Hey Scott, thanks for the photos too. This palm really has a Ptychosperms look, which isn't a bad thing.

So this palm clusters? And it has a new name? Good to know, if that's right... mine is variegated.

This pic shows some of the variegation that is not burned out.
