Wow, this palm is huge! Mine is still a "small" enough to grow in a pot. Unfortunately I can't grow it outdoors in my climate, so I hope it won't grow to fast :/

It's very hard to get a picture of the whole thing in one frame, it's so large and surrounded by other plants. (The trunk is more massive than my own . . . .)

Jerry. You need to get some one I the shot for scale. I've see it personally and the pic doesn't do it justice. It's HUGE. Is this the one that was thrown out there and grew? Or is that a true story I just made up....

This is P torallyi var torallyi. It is huge I need to get a picture with a person next to it. The Palm almost died several years back from some sort of infection. The main stem was cut out with a chainsaw and a new growth pushed out of the side and grew like crazy. Probably not a good choice for a small garden, this specie needs some space.

Ben, I am convinced that palm will make it here if started with a decent sized specimen which I cannot find, so start digging and send it my way.

You have a cool enough winter. I not certain that it would appreciate you uber humid long summer. It would look awesome in your garden!

Keith, I have heard P. sunkha is purported to be best for your climate, to Moose's point.  Since you are on a buying binge anyway, you should check in with Patric.  He has HUGE 5g Sunkhas, lots of them, that I think he's selling for $50.  These are 15g size plants, probably at least 5ft tall in their pots.  If there is any way he could get one of those shipped to you - you would be very happy.

Sunkha is a great palm.

Much smaller than tor tor - a mere 150 pound gorilla, with all the other Chewbacca attributes we love, including silver reverses on the leaves. And, an early puberty (mine's setting seed!)

Good to see you posting away Jerry! (or is Cindy sneaking stuff in here?)

Snapped a pic of this Parajubea in New Zealand back in the spring. I think it's toraylli. I didn't realize they got so massive.

Tim, I didn't know they got so big, either, when I planted mine so close to the house.
