Boy ....  this is like asking for the plage.  There is a research scientist for plant health in the Orlando FL area that is looking into finding a way to make palms less susceptible to the Ganoderma fungus.  As most people know, this spells a death sentence to palms, and you may not ever be able to grow a palm in the same area where these spores have wrecked havoc.   This person is looking for live conks to gather spores for the research.  This is very important research to anyone that grows palms.  She is located in the Orlando FL area and will come out to take samples.  Any one in this area that knows where there are live conks will be greatly appreciated.  Be part of the solution!  Please PM me if you have any samples for her to collect.  It is great that some one is looking into this devastating problem.

BTW here is what a Ganoderma conk looks like.  Help save the palms.

Hi Mike,

Are you looking specifically conks growing on palms? I have a Turkey Oak that seems to have a bacterial infection of some sort…when it rains often the tree weeps a blackish tar like substance and often I see this type of fungus growing on the tree…and it currently has some growing on it now on an upper branch. I can get you a photo tomorrow if interested.

Only conks on palms.  I know there is different types of ganoderma that grow on Dicot trees also.  Lets keep this to Palms only.  thanks

Last time I was in Tampa I saw some on the Sabal palms by that history museum next to the Amalie arena. But I don't remember when that was and the palms may be gone by now.

Mike, good to see you this past Saturday!  What a rush for the old hosts.  Took till about noon today to get over the tired.

We might have something at DAVID'S rental property.  I think one of the S palmetto there had conchs.  But the tree looks fine, and they were pretty high up for a pathogen that doesn't go too far up the tree.
