I actually planted this 7 gallon Pigafetta filaris on November 12, 2015.  I had purchased it as a very small 4 inch palm somewhere between 1 to 1.5 years prior to planting.  I was told that these palms are rocket ships, but I was amazed to see almost 5 ft of growth in such a short period of time.  This is planted in an area that was packed with "praying hands" bananas, but it was well worth the effort to remove the bananas to make room for this beautiful palm.  Hopefully I will have very long term success with this palm, and can impress the visitors that come to view the museum and garden.  I will post periodic updates of its progress.

Nice palm there Tim! They are indeed rocketships...mine grew a new leaf every ten days, each leaf larger than the preceding one. Once it reached trunking stage it slowed down a little, but still lightning quick! As you've probably noticed, they need constant watering and feeding :)

Not for long Cindy.  You'll be posting pics of your palm this size by next year!

Thanks Pete.  Unless I am planting the hardcore, alkaline pH loving palms, I tend to dig quite large holes and bring in lots of new soil.  This Pigafetta got lots of the good stuff.

That good Tim, proves they can grow in Florida "above" the calcareous  soil, btw yyrs is the Black Pigafetta elata not the White filaris.

It will keep on growing for you, all best with it.   Pete :)

Not much bigger than it was 3 months ago when took the last photos, but still trucking along. If you are on the fence about planting one, just do it. You'll be happy you did.

I'm just a little worried about wind tolerance during hurricane's. It would be near my house and where I park.
