Admiring the many palms that didn't get sampled by cattle, I recently photographed this one. I recall that the grower said "Let's race" when I bought this one, which fit with several others in a shoe box in April 2010.

I should email him sometime and find out!

How wonderful a shoe-box can contain such beauties!

I planted 3 Areca catechu Alba seedlings last week, now I have to wait 6 years until I can see such a nice palm.

Although we are impatient, it is also fun to watch them transform from looking like blade of grass to actual trees, isn't it!

Here is mine. I planted it from a conetainer...

It's doing very well now.

Looks perfect Andrew! The banana yellow color of these really stands out amongst all the green.

This palm will give you guys lots to look at for many years. The color changes throughout the year from light yellow, buttery yellow, to greenish yellow.

Couldn't resist, had to post some recent photos.

Tim, thank you for these beautiful pictures,

I just planted 3 A. catechu 'Alba' seedlings in a half shady situation,

It seems to me that sun can burn the foliage, but anyway Areca catechu can become tall enough to reach the sunny sky.
Is the flower fragrant too?

Thanks Philippe, I don't remember any fragrance from the flowers. The inflorescence are pretty wild and super attractive.

Wow Tim, those are gorgeous! Cindy's and Mandrew's palms look great as well!

We never have enough of those kinds of pictures from HI, I wish more people would post what they have there. This is the kind of stuff that gives us the inspiration.

Exactly, I became Uber-jealous of hawaiian gardens I have seen on Palmtalk (Hi Lilikoilee, Ayubowan :)).

Wow what a beautiful palm. Tim those are such a nice contrast to the greens and darker colors of the garden.  I have one at a clients from Bill Austin that is finally starting to show some color, but mine here from a 4inch from floribunda,  seems to be slower growth than the red macrocaylx.

Mucho Mahalo.

Thanks for the post Ando, almost any palm gives me inspiration.

Colin, I think mine was a good sized 5 gal. so be patient. It's an Areca and they grow well here in Hawaii.

Tim again yours look perfect and perfectly positioned to show off the color.

Mine as usual was just stuffed in the ground hurriedly during my previous madness planting 50-100 plants in my one week visits every 4 months or so. Now I no longer have that excuse for my informal jungle...

That would be a very nice plant, not yet existing?

Oh yeah, that would be interesting. Still waiting for my dwarf catechu to flower. No sign of that happening yet.

I don't like the yellow Adonidia (don't like any Adonidia...) but this catechu form is really special.

I was just thinking of those A. catechu 'golden' the other day. I think they are the same as 'alba'. At any rate, I'm way behind in my work. I should have separated and repotted mine a while ago. It's on the to-do list!

Very promising seedlings, bravo, but will they grow in Florida?

Why don't you bring these babies to a srilankan garden? (lol)
