This one is finally growing faster from a tiny seedling shaded out initially in 2009. It is near a pre existing foxtail and probably

Astrocaryum standleyanum. These photos don't show the silver undersides to the leaves.

There is a larger one in nearly full shade that was already here, but harder to photograph. I recall the gorgeous ones at the 2012 Biennial in Thailand and mine have a long way to go!

This is a underused species in my opinion. It's my favorite of all Arengas I think. It should grow very fast for you down there and blend in well with the jungle look you have.

This is a palm I would most definitely plant if my clients had the space.  They do get quite wide, don't they?

I planted a couple along my driveway, but about 4 metres back. What decided me on that was the nursery I usually go to has some really large ones along their drive way. They're really too close and need trimming back. A pity to have to keep losing all that growth.

I need to remove several fronds on mine now

Yes! The one pictured leans over a walking path trying for more sun but I am small enough to walk around or under the leaves so far!

I love this Arenga too, but the problem is how big (and eventually dead) they get. This could be three times the hassle of an Arenga pinnata, down the road. If I had a huge farm, I would plant this. However, I can't think of a local client who would have the room for such a large palm... The ones at UM are fantastic!
