A beautiful early morning in South Florida calls for a few camera shots of palmy goodness. I started collecting palms in 1987, and have never tired of them. These pictures are from my residence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, zone 10B. My lowest low temperature this year has been 44F, and the all time lowest since I began in 2000, was 38. Fortunately, I am surrounded by warm brackish river water. My garden just turned 16 years old and many of these palms were planted from either a 3 gallon, 1 gallon, or 4" container.

I can identify any palms if you wish....just attempting to save some time here.

WOW, nice early morning pictures, how is it in the afternoon?

I am lost since I feel I am not able to identify any of the palms you show, besides cocos nucifera.
It seems you have a real nice tropical climate.

Your garden looks great, thanks for sharing! I wish my yard could look like that...

If the coldest you've seen in 16yrs is 38 I think it is safe to say you're zone 11.

So beautiful, thank you for posting, this really brightened my morning.

What is the lovely full palm in photo #13 with the tiki and the red spheres.  (Are those basket-woven and painted red? So decorative!)

Andrea and I have been to Rick's beautiful garden many, many times. Pretty much since the garden was started when he first bought his house. Per square feet, Rick has really incorporated one of the most diverse gardens you will ever see. It speaks volume of selection of palms and colorful crotons.

BE YOU TEA FULL RICK!!!!

Looks to be well worth your effort as it looks very inviting! Well Done

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Moose,

The Cocos nucifera "macapuna" has to be kept free of nuts because it hangs over my neighbors fence and possibly roof (in a good wind.)

For those of you unfamiliar with macapuna coconut, this tree is a seed from the late Paul Drummond's mature macapuna. He told me it's a Philipino cultivar grown specifically for the coconut meat. The smaller nuts are scooped with an ice cream scoop and taste exactly like vanilla.

I'm not certain if there are any others in South Florida. Sadly, his original fell to bulldozers when his place was sold.

Rick, your garden is amazing!  You obviously have an artistic eye and your horticultural skills are awesome.  I really do hope to come see it someday when I'm down your way.  My only complaint is that you didn't show enough of your beautiful crotons!
