Yes, my beloved Metroxylon salomonense in Puerto Rico is loaded with buds. I have been watching and the spike seemed to suddenly appear. I expect LOTS of seeds and then a funeral. Happily far from the house as nature will likely be removing the trunk to the excitement of many wood chewing insects, bacteria and fungi I guess.

I still want a M. amicorum which is the only Metroxylon to live on after seed production.

I am sure to take better pictures later, especially as I further clear this area and will probably add them to this thread.

Any idea on how long it took to reach this seeding and unfortunate, or maybe fortunate, death from when you planted it??, and did this

one have a red new leaf?  My M. vitiense has a faint amount of red, but not too intense.

I do not know when this tree was planted but it was big 9 years ago. No red color to the new leaves but my photos never capture the majesty of this giant! I will surely miss this palm. I really don't know what it is doing now in this update. Do you think the flowers opened while I was at the Biennial?
