I have a few banana trees in my garden. I love its tropical look, but the best is this, the fruit.

I think the next weeks, breakfast= banana, lunch=banana, dinner=banana:drool:

Yum, yum.  I normally leave mine on the plant until they ripen or are very close to ripening.  What do you do to ripen them when you harvest them this green.  I know the commercially sold bananas get gassed to push them ahead after all the transportation to market here in the States.  I'm waiting for some to transition from growth to fruiting right now.  I started using them to shade small newly planted palms because the bananas grow so fast, and are easy to remove when the time comes.

I don't make nothing. When i think is good to cut, i cut it and put the bananas in my garage. The temperature in the garage always is cool and the bananas needs a long time to ripen. Every days i take a few bananas and i put it in the kitchen, in my kitchen in 2 -3 days are perfect to eat.

Now i am eating the late breakfast and i have one banana cutted two weeks ago and is perfect.

There is something to be said about walking out into the garden to pick fresh bananas for breakfast.  Most of mine are a variety called "Goldfinger", which are a little smaller than the one's Monòver has posted, but have great flavor.  My last harvest was in the autumn, with no flowering or fruit yet on my next crop.

The other one, is and unknow for me, variety. It is very sweet but a litle bit sour.

Sorry, i don't have a climate chart, but it is the tipical mediterranean climate, like southern California.

This is the second year for the Roystonea in my garden. It is fast, but less than my Archontophoenix cuninnghamiana.

I don't now. I bought the banana tree two years ago, but in the nursery  do not had the label. I bought it, because it was different than other banana trees that i have seen in Spain.

It is  very tall, the stem is around 4 meters and with slim and long leaves.

Nice score Antonio!! Do you grow other fruit trees, like papaya or mango?

Yes, i have 5 small Papaya,. I sprouted it last year and they are in a pots.

And i have one mango tree, variety Ossten. But it is small and is in a pot. Last year i was eating the firs two mangoes and was delicious.

My problem is i don't have enough garden for every plants and the first is the palms. Last month i had been cutting two big banana trees for give more space for my palms.

you should try few pineapples also, even in pots

i looked up alicante weather chart. would you say its about the same.

you should even try adonidia up against the wall. its worth a shot. and veitchia arecina would be nice. if it was me i would even try a coconut against a south facing block wall. of course with winter blankets and a heater.

is that a pachira aquatic you have. is it in the ground or a pot. i had a huge tree that i cut down. if its in the ground it could break concrete in a few years.

The pineapples are too tropical for grow here. I saw a few in other gardens and if we have a chilly winter, always are death.

I love bromeliads and the pineapple is a lovely bromeliad, but not for my garden.

My place is a little bit warmer than Alicante.

Adonidias are too tropical for this area, the only one Adonidias healthy, near my house, are in a shoping center and is growing in semi- outdoor space.

Arecinas here grows well, last week i planted a small joannis, i hope it will grow like arecinas.

Coconuts??? I think is imposible to have a healthy coconut here, may be in a perfect spot, but i only have one perfect spot and is for my Carpoxilon.

Yes, it is a Pachira. But here is not dangerous, is a slow grower and if in future it will broke the concrete, i will cut it.

user00 is right about the pineapple in pots if the soil is fast draining and you can always move then a few times in winter on very cold days. they grow very fast from the top of the fruit in 2 years it should fruit.

Coconuts would be a stretch but if i lived there i would have to try in a good microclimate.

have you tried Ravenala madagascarienis it should grow good for you there with water.

i would love to see more pics of your garden. i love the Spanish and Mediterranean gardens.
