Planted last august, it seems this plant enjoys the place.
But I find it still very skinny, when it seems to me I have seen on Palmtalk pics of more massive trunks.
Should I just wait some more ?

Ooh, nice! That's how they are. Mine was really skinny until it got to about 6-7ft in height, at which point the trunk started swelling at the bottom.

Thanks Philippe, I did take some pictures recently; the leaf that opened at the end of December is still red (nearly 4 months now), but the leaf production slowed down quite drastically during winter. It should open a new leaf in about 6 weeks, and will get going again once the weather warms up. It's 8 feet tall now, and the trunk is still very thin (just like yours) but getting fatter at the base.

Philippe, enjoy the new leaves while it it still relatively small, the palm will eventually get tall and the new leaves hard to see.

Yes,

As you can see on RPS or Floribunda palms lists, or in one of the recent IPS "Palms" magazine.

»As with Dypsis pinnatifrons, its trunk starts out with a diameter of only 1 cm (1/2 in.) and grows very quickly with long internodes. As the palm matures, the trunk gains considerably in substance, reaching a diameter of up to 10 cm (4 in.), (so much for the theory that palm trunks do not exhibit any secondary growth) and a height of ultimately up to 10 m (33 ft.), while the crown becomes large and spreading.« (Palmpedia)

Many thanks

I am looking forward to seeing that fat trunk, and the inflorescence too… one day.

The former Neophlogas are all skinny things, which, mostly hate so-Cal, except Pando's place, and others near the ocean.
