I think this is a good example of how the so-called professionals don't really know what they're doing gardeners that is.  They mite honestly think they're doing a good job but in fact they might be killing a palm tree.  Saddest thing is that people don't know king palms are self cleaning so they don't need to pay anyone to prune there palm tree.  When the leaf dies it just falls off. I seen many palms kick the bucket from getting over pruned or end up with a girlish figure on the trunk with curves that is.

What a crime! Horrible! Some people are so stupid. I see this way too often with kings, queens and pigmy dates. Cheap, unskilled and ignorant labor is to blame.

My gardener did this to my Jubaea x Butia x Syagrus after I told him not to trim palms just grass. He's not my gardener anymore. I just wanted him to cut the grass.

Yes

I hate it when people do too much trimming.

That was a smart move to fire your gardener. You know it was only going to get worse from there. It never ceases to amaze me that people think this is ok. Not only does it look bad, you're really short-changing the palm for future growth. That's one reason why I don't hire a landscaper for my yard- the poor technique and unsterilised tools. My yard looks a little bit jungly, but it's the lesser of two evils IMHO.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.
