Palm with Blue Fronds

Pal Meir

Recommended Posts

ID please palm with blue fronds: I saw this palm with blue-white fronds in a very humid tropical hothouse in Berlin Botanical Garden, but couldn’t detect any label. The fronds remind of Dypsis decaryi, but the trunk is very slender.

it seems I recognize my Dypsis decaryi growing too much in the shade.

In Berlin hot house, I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of light would be less than Dypsis decaryi needs.

BUT:

beautiful picture of a beautiful planting

Thanks, Philippe! I too guessed that the humid and shady environment might have produced an atypical not so triangular shape. The palm has already a quite tall and very slender stem.

Yes :greenthumb:, this was the other possibility I was guessing because of the lacking of the triangular shape.

Decaryi hybrid

I am not sure botanic gardens are cultivating and showing hybrids

I think so too that Berlin BG will exhibit only natural palms and no hybrids. — As the palm was growing on a site hidden because of maintenance work I couldn’t take better pics of the whole tree and not see the tag too.

The way the leaflets are staying attached to each other by a small string tells me: D.decaryi .

Palm Meir,

Any other pictures of the Berlin botanic garden hothouse? it's worth a new topic in travel log!
