Some very mature pandanus in private garden

These pandanus are located in the former Julatten palmetum.

 

These two monsters are originally from Papua New Guinea and are planted close to the house. 

(apparently the caterpillars  on the vine are more interesting)

For scale my partner Claire is standing between the roots.

I'm not a big fan of variegated pandanus, but this one deserved inclusion.

Those are great specimens! Pandans are one of my favorite groups of plants.

Possibly may be Pandanus papuanus...... I have planted one here and around the corner from me is a monster of similar size to the ones there in Julatten.

I have gotten seed of  Pandanus papuanus but never any germination.

I'm not sure. I got them from RPS and I have had good germination with other Pandanus species seed I have gotten from them.

Pity it's so complicated to export plant material out of Australia.....

The Palmetum also has a number of other large pandanus, I would have taken more photos if I had known people were interested.  Especially the one that looks like a big Christmas tree! In the right of the middle garden in this pic.

 

 

I've got about 18 species in my own collection, but none are over 16 years old yet ( except the two species growing wild that is)
