We are just back from Madagascar where we made a new trip with some friends of Fous de Palmiers and Palmeraie-Union societies.

We made a really fantastic expedition on east coast discovering some of the most impressive places of palm's diversity.

Of course, we brought tousands of photos that we are actually trying to sort and identify.

I propose you to go and see the first album from Masoala where we were looking for the mythic Lemurophoenix !!

Be careful with the identifications because some of them need to be corrected. Then, i'm very interested by your comments

Best

Again wonderful pics, thanks.

Is Lemurophoenix the graceful arching fronds palm too?

I like to see that like in Sri Lanka, natives are walking barefoot where one would be afraid to walk even with shoes (actually in Sri Lanka I wear only slippers)

No leeches there?

Smiling people too! :D

These are easily some of the best habitat shots I have ever seen. You make it look easy and all I hear is how difficult it is to get such clear shots. You are not only an expert in Madagascan palms, which no one on this site will refute, but you are also a master of the lense. Thank you very much for your efforts, Olivier!

This one is very interesting !!

I called it Dypsis sp. aff. tsaravoasira "big seeds". It is a very tall species (more than 20 meters) with leaves in 3 ranks with regular leaflets, the same as tsaravoasira, but  with a huge inflorescence with red tomentum and big seeds (more or less 2 cm - 1 cm) . I don't  know at all what this could be. Any ideas ?

This one is also very interesting.

It's probably an unknown species of Dypsis with stunning entire bifid leaves when young that divide after. It seems to be a clumping species of vonitra group, but not sure

Nice Dypsis! You guys always amaze me how you can see a palm and say it's a Dypsis!  I wouldn't have a clue. I need a palm ID guide ;)
