Hello,

I recently purchased my first palm tree (a Christmas palm) and noticed there is a soft white/grayish residue at the base of the branches (picture below).   I don't think this is scale based on pictures I've seen online but wanted to be sure I wasn't ignoring something that I shouldn't.  Can anyone familiar with palms give their advice?

Thanks,

Andrew

That's just natural tomentum on the leaf bases/petioles. They are produced that way by the palm. Certain species have it, others not
