My first Nannorrhops ritchiana seed has sprouted!  This may be no big deal to some of you seasoned germinators, but I am supper stoked over this!  I have been trying to germinate Nannorrhops ritchiana using the baggie method and heat pad indoors for months with no joy.  I finally placed the baggie outside in this 100F degree South Texas weather and B.O.O.M; had a root showing in two weeks.  I still have 4 more that have not germinated yet; I am still holding out for future success.

I think it is about time to transplant this bad boy from the baggie into a pot.  Anyone have any suggestions to give this Mazari its best chance?  Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

That's great. I just checked mine and still nothing. I did however discover one of my needle palm seeds has sprouted.

Cheers, Barrie.

Good for you! I heard these are difficult to germinate. Once they're seedlings, especially in the humidity, they are extremely slow. Hopefully they do well for you.

Arabica dampens off really bad and is not anymore cold hardy than a pigmy date when a seedling.  Ritcheana handles humidity well and overhead watering and is more cold hardy as a seedling.

Both like well draining soil.

Pretty sure they hate root disturbance so get it in a larger pot early.

Thanks guys...I will definitely take your advice!

Pal Meir....man that is awesome; thank you for taking the time to annotate my shot with the correct nomenclature.  I just might just put that on canvas and hang it on my wall...LOL!

Hi there - do you have any updated pics of your Mazari seedling(s)? I just germinated five of the Kashmir form Mazari palms.  Got 100% germination in just three weeks!

UPDATE:  Germinated in August of 2016, planted in the ground in March of 2018, and its still kicking today.  Appears to be a slow grower, as the first palmate fronds are just starting to emerge (although, it is planted in a shady spot with mostly easterly morning sun).  I haven't had any issue with it though, pretty tough little bugger for this climate.  Takes the heat and the cold in stride; never had any spear pull.  I keep forgetting that it is there, and I have stepped on it numerous times trimming hedges and hanging Christmas lights.
