Arenga undulatifolia

This palm is now almost 20 years from seed. It was first planted in a former residence as a three year old and spent the next three years doing nothing so I dug it up and potted it again.

It spent the next three years in the pot and was eventually planted in my beach garden. It has struggled and has looked awful until this year. I think that it now gets some shade and protection on all sides and possibly it might have finally tapped into the water table have been the determining success factors.

I am very fond of the genus Arenga and this species in particular has always been a favorite.I also have Arenga australasica growing in the beach garden and it has been a slow but effortless palm surviving the salt , wind and extreme beach conditions in general.

My A. undulatifolia ,slightly outstaged by the Nora Grant ixoras

Gorgeous Scott! Nice spot too.

I have a pretty large one in full shade, but the one I planted seems to lean towards the sun so I am clearing around it. Well worth making room for this palm.

I have seen some spectacular A.undulatifolias in South Florida and I love they way they glisten with a slight breeze and dappled sunlight .They are just magical.
