  • 3 weeks later...

grows easily.

pity it looses it's red edge once larger.

Seems to get some leaf issues in wet cool weather...maybe a fungus ?

they look great when cleaned up & their prop roots are showy

It is a lovely Pandanus but it is just such a sook.............. It hates wet feet and dies when burnt to remove dead leaves. I sprayed a paper wasp nest on one once with flyspray and it turned up its toes !!!

This species does very well in California- here's a couple shots... one large one in Santa Barbara, and a few shots of my seedling which grew easily even in the San Fernando Valley where the weather is not that great (super hot sometimes and really cold sometimes).

I had fresh seeds off my own tree 10 months ago.... not 1 germination yet?

Has been our winter here for 4 months and I didn't apply heat to them so I haven't given up hope yet

Pandanus utilis is dioecious so possibly the female cone hasn't been fertilized.
