Syagrus amara First Inflorescence

This is one of the first flowerings of my three 20 year old Syagrus amara. I counted three species of bees pollinating the flowers.

Las Heliconias - jungle garden ,800m elevation,150+ inches rainfall, year round 15-28c

Wow, 20 years old. I had no idea they were that slow to develop in the tropics. So that means I'll be about 100  when mine flowers. Great pictures!

I got seed from a grove of S. amara at the university grounds down the road, and have no ideal how old they are. I don't think they are that old, but 

you never know. The ones I grew from seed are getting tall and are pretty robust.

Bret, this is 20 yrs growing at the beach in pure sand. I am sure if I had these growing in my highland garden it would not take so long.
