Monday I had the privilege of making it out to USDA Chapman Field for a tour of the grounds and some casual talk with Dr. Alan Meerow--a wealth of knowledge that I am grateful for, always! The place is over 200 acres of amazing plants and projects, all agricultural and/or ornamental. I figured it would be great to post on here, their Tahina spectabilis. I assume they were one of the first to get seeds in of this amazing giant. Weather they are the largest in cultivation, is up for debate. What's not is if Palmtalk would want to see them or not! So, I took pictures thinking about my palm family and I hope you all enjoy, and this brings great discussion.

I was surprised to see the blue cast to the leaves. Look closely and you can see the peacocks for scale.

Yep, these are finally starting to get some size to them since having been planted in many gardens in the last few years.

I know the ones here in Hawaii are really starting to explode.

Here is a photo of the one in Bill Austin's garden taken about a month ago. ClinoDave for scale.

You definitely need to plan for the space these things will take.  They are very striking!

I would think the ones at Nong Nooch would be quite large by now.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Geezuz Kenny, that one is certainly a happy camper which I probably think you were too.

This seems like a success story of getting this palm into circulation in a way that was a win win for all! Beautiful palms and thanks for sharing all the photos. More are welcome!

Maybe mine is a dwarf variety? Just kidding of course.

The Aussie one is of similar size but the color is not glaucous like at USDA.
